Cromer Pier

This is painted entirely with a palette knife. Not something I do often, but a technique I am growing fond of for the natural looseness it affords. It was listed as being exhibited at the Surgery in Nunhead in September 2011 but by a strange twist of fate, it was mistaken for some ballerinas which were exhibited instead!

I walked to Cromer Pier from Sherringham in the summer of 2011, while I was on tour with GB Theatre. It is a stunning stretch of beach. We were literally a group of strolling players shambling along the endless strand on a gloriously hot day, in search of ice creams, chips, seashells and suntans. Then the mad dash back to Norwich to perform Romeo and Juliet in the evening in the cloisters of Norwich Cathedral.
