I was in Northern Ireland in September 2010 and found myself unexpectedly in a heatwave. We decided to go for a walk to make the most of the uncharactaristic, searing sunshine. The shade of the trees was delicious in the heat and we marched along, happy adventurers, singing Lieder and laughing all the way to the Lough. The sea and sky vibrated intense blues and white yachts with pregnant sails sheared through the glinting waters. That’s something else I love about the activity. Painting allows one to recall, not only the images one has seen, but to re-experience the emotions felt while seeing them.
