This is a study of a foxglove that I grew and painted in my back yard. It’s a pretty small yard, just big enough to drink a Guinness in on a summer’s evening. Like it’s owner it’s pretty wild and unkempt, in fact, I actively try to grow wild flowers and bee-friendly plants and don’t use any pesticides or fertilizers. My method of gardening involves chopping everything back in the winter, watching it grow in the spring and summer and when the autumn comes and the plants go to seed, tearing off the heads or pods and generally sprinkling them around the place. The foxgloves are particularly good at this game. My mother loves foxgloves so I painted this for her. It was also the first frame I ever made!
