Annaghmakerrig is a magical place that I was given the gift of being introduced to by a very dear friend. It is a treat to sit by the quiet lake and enjoy a real sense of peace. As evening falls and the sun goes down, even the birds quieten and the air begins to cool. That’s when mists start to curl up from the waters and it looks as though there are spirits drifting across the lake. They’re not malignant or frightening but they are wonderfully melancholic. One can see how in times gone by, with out the knowledge of hydrometeorological suspensions, folk could believe in supernatural spirits as the mists rose and darkness fell, in remoter places.
